Hellfest 2018: Sunday review

Sunday, June 24th

Waking up to the thought that it is already the last day of the festival, makes me kind of sad. But we won’t let this ruin our day, right?!

Starting the day slowly with Orden Ogan Stray from the path, which is a nice way to start the day.

Primal Fear is always a joy to watch and enjoy. Seeing them recently on another festival on a boat and the singer making a funny joke about it, I was wondering if he would do the same today. But it didn’t.

Shinedown is one of these bands I heard so many different opinions about. So why not check them out myself and see what it is all about. I have to say there was something about the sound that made it nice to listen to and enjoy while waiting for the next band.
I had no idea what to expect from In this Moment, I had seen so many photos passing by on the Internet I just had to go and watch this performance. I guess the fact it was in daylight and not some darker place (would have been better in the Altar or Temple in my opinion), it kind of disappointed me. I know they give one hell of a show so for those who were there and felt the same way. I hope we all get to see them in a way better condition. An act like this is just not made for too much sun! And some things just need darkness, this is one of them. Was also surprised to see some girl show her boobies to the band, all I could think of is “this is not Steel Panther playing…”.
From the whole set Iced Earth played, the last song, is what I will treasure the most. A song dedicated to a friend who passed away in an accident. It made me think of a friend I lost a few years ago, a good soul gone to soon. It is impressive what certain songs can do to your emotions.

So many great hits following up one after the other, it was nice to finally see Accept live and hear “Metal heart” in it’s original version, as I mostly knew it covered by Dimmu Borgir.

Alissa gives one hell of a performance with Arch Enemy and the crowd seems to be enjoying the show.

And as all good things must come to an end, there is only 2 bands left for me… Shooting Alice in Chains, which is nice to see live, specially since I grew up with their music as a teenager.  And last but not least, Iron Maiden, because it was too crowded and after running around from stage to stage for 3 days, I stayed for a few songs only till “The Trooper” which is probably the song I love the most by them. I was impressed / surprised by the fact that Bruce was speaking French fluently! I know it is not an easy language, so much respect for that!

Last of all, I would like to say a HUGE thank you to the most amazing / friendly security I have ever experienced, these guys deserve not to be forgotten!

Hellfest was a blast, looking forward to return to hell in 2019!

I missed the live announcement but some names have been revealed already for next year edition already: Manowar, Slayer, Dropkick Murphys, Carcass & Mass Hysteria
